Speaker for more regional ties in improving human index

DHAKA, SEPT 21: Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, now in China, today called upon people of the region to work together for improving human index through poverty reduction and fulfilling basic demands of mass people, says a report in Dhaka. The Speaker was presenting the keynote paper titled "Education for Peace: Cooperation for Win Win Outcome: Common Aspiration of the People of the Region" at the inaugural session of the four-day conference on International Day of Peace-2013 and China-South Asia Peace and Development Forum at Haigeng Convention Hall in Kunming of China.
The Speaker said it is possible to eliminate poverty, create employment, bring gender parity and build sustainable environment through adopting proper policy, planning and strategy.
She urged to establish regional understanding by eradicating social discrimination through "Education-Peace".
Referring the longstanding Bangladesh-China friendship, Dr Shirin mentioned that Bangladesh-China Parliamentary Friendship group has been formed in Bangladesh parliament that helps further strengthening the friendship between members of parliament of both the countries.
A two-member parliamentary delegation led by Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury left Dhaka for Kunming, China yesterday to attend the conference.
Meanwhile, China views good-neighbourly friendship as a priority of its foreign policy and wants peaceful co-existence, cooperation and development with neighbouring countries, Vice President Li Yuanchao said on Saturday.
Li made the remarks at a forum to mark International Day of Peace in Kunming, capital city of southwestern China's Yunnan Province. The day, which falls on Sept 21, is established by the UN General Assembly as an annual day of non-violence and cease-fire.
Facing important opportunities for development, China and South Asia should make joint efforts to safeguard peace, adhere to independence and self-empowerment, oppose external interference and the big and strong bullying the small and weak, Li said.
