The Main Bridge of the 8th Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge Is Successfully Closed

    The main bridge of the 8th Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge Project Aided to Bangladesh completed the full bridge closure operation in December 28, 2021. So far, the main engineering work of the project over the water has been completed.

    The 8th Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge is the 8th bridge project aided by the government of the People’s Republic of China to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and it is located about 5 kilometers east of Pirojpur in the Barisal Division of southern Bangladesh. The track length of the bridge is 2.96 kilometers, including one newly built 1.493 kilometers extra large bridge. The total length of the main bridge section closed this time is 998 meters and with a width of 13.4 meters.

    The bridge is constructed by China Railway 17 Bureau Group Co., Ltd., and the management company of the project is China Railway Major Bridge Reconnaissance & Design Institute Co., Ltd. The Chinese engineers formulate a thorough construction plan, carefully organize the construction, and work together with the Bangladeshi builders to ensure that the closing process of the bridge is safe and orderly.

    The bridge is expected to be completed in June 2022.With the completion of the project, Khulna and Barisal Divisions of Bangladesh will be connected by land transportation. It will directly contribute to the economical and cultural exchange of the both divisions and effectively improve the local road network structure there. It will also promote the better development of various industries such as agriculture, industry, aquatic fishery and tourism in southern Bangladesh.
