On March 3rd 2008, Foreign Adviser of Bangladesh Caretaker government Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury affirmed Bangladesh's position on Taiwan's attempt to seek UN membership through a "referendum" to be held by its authorities on March 22nd. He said there is only one China --- the People's Republic of China. Bangladesh will categorically reject any attempts by any part of China such as Taiwan to seek UN membership. Relations with China are at the heart of Bangladeshi's foreign policy. Bangladesh will continue the One China Policy.
