Chinese Ambassador Zheng Qingdian Attends the Inauguration Ceremony of the Sixth Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge

 

    On February 18th 2008, Bangladesh Ministry of Communications, Bangladesh Bridge Authority jointly held the Inauguration Ceremony of the Sixth Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge built under the assistance of Chinese government. Chief Adviser of Bangladesh Caretaker Government, H. E. Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed, Adviser for Communications, H. E. Maj. Gen. (Rtd.) Golam Quader, Chinese Ambassador, H. E. Mr. Zheng Qingdian, other envoys to Bangladesh attended the ceremony.

    In his speech, Chief Adviser Fakhruddin spoke highly of profound China and Bangladesh friendship and expressed gratitude for the unselfish support from Chinese side for Bangladesh social and economic development. He said that as the brethren neighboring country, China has assisted Bangladesh in building six bridges successively since the 80s of the last century, contributing greatly to the advancement of Bangladesh infrastructure and Bangladesh social and economic development. Bangladesh government and its people will treasure up the profound friendship with Chinese government and its people.

    Ambassador Zheng congratulated on the official open of the Sixth Bridge. He said China attaches great importance to the ties with Bangladesh, and stands ready to offer help in its power. The six bridges not only play an important role in Bangladesh economic development, but also bring the hearts of the two peoples closer. It is believed that with the concerted efforts from both sides, China-Bangladesh friendship will be further deepened and advanced.

    Standing over the Dhaleswary River, with a total of 1521 meter in length, the Sixth China-Bangladesh Friendship Bridge is the pivotal construction connecting northern part of Bangladesh to the south. The building of the Bridge started in July 2005, and completed in January 2008, 7 months ahead of schedule.
