| Handover Ceremony From Chinese PLA to Bangladesh Army Held in Dhaka | ||||||

On December 31st, the handover ceremony of the emergency relief material from Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) to Bangladesh Army was held in Armed Forces Division (AFD), Dhaka. Chinese Ambassador, H. E. Mr. Zheng Qingdian and Principal Staff Officer of AFD, Lieut. Gen. Masud Uddin Chowdhury attended the ceremony. Defence Attache of Chinese Embassy, Senior Colonel Wang Zhenyin and Director of Operations and Planning of AFD, Brig. Gen. Qazi Abidus Samad signed the handover documents representing the two parties.
Following the ceremony, Ambassador Zheng and Lieut. Gen Masud gave an interview to Bangladesh media. Ambassador Zheng expressed that the friendship between the two countries and the two armies dates back to the ancient times. China extended help to Bangladesh upon it was hit by the cyclone disaster. The relief material, though moderate in quantity, expressed care and concern of all officers and soldiers of Chinese PLA. Lieut. Gen. Masud said the emergency relief material from Chinese PLA came just in time. Bangladesh AFD thanks the selfless help from Chinese Army and will promptly distribute the relief material to the disaster-affected people.
The emergency relief material including MT 1000 rice, MT 500 flour and MT 100 edible oil was provided by Chinese PLA to assist Bangladesh Army in its effort to help cyclone-affected people and arrived in Bangladesh in late December 2007. |
