From 26th to 28th September at the invitation of Bangladesh parliament, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), H. E. Mr. Wang Zhongyu paid a goodwill visit to Bangladesh. Vice Chairman Wang called on Bangladesh president, H. E. Prof. Iajuddin Ahmed and held a meeting with Speaker of Bangladesh Parliament, Barrister Muhammad Jamiruddin Sircar.

            

    Vice Chairman Wang conveyed Chairman of People's Republic of China, H. E. Mr. Hu Jintao's greetings to President Iajuddin. He said China and Bangladesh are close neighboring countries with a time-tested friendship. In 2005, the joint declaration of the establishment of long-standing friendship and comprehensive partnership of cooperation for mutual benefits made by the two countries led the bilateral ties into a new era of development. China would like to work with Bangladesh to widen the cooperation and promote the friendly ties to a higher level. China appreciated Bangladesh's long-standing support in light of Taiwan and Tibet issues. Meanwhile, China is greatly concerned with the recent devastating flood afflicting Bangladesh and hopes the flood-affected people will soon overcome the disaster and rebuild their homes.

    Prof. Iajuddin requested Vice Chairman Wang to convey his best regards to H. E. Mr. Hu Jintao. He spoke highly of Bangladesh-China friendship and appreciated the yearly valuable support and help offered by Chinese side for Bangladesh social and economic development. He said China is a reliable friend and partner and Bangladesh will stick to One China Principle and work with China to further deepen the cooperation in the fields of politics, economy, culture, education and technology.

    Vice Chairman Wang introduced multi-party cooperation and political consultation system under the leadership of Chinese Communist Party to Speaker Sircar. They exchanged views concerning the contact and cooperation between CPPCC and Bangladesh Parliament. Both agreed to strengthen exchange and cooperation in an effort to enhance and deepen the comprehensive partnership of cooperation between the two countries.

    Chinese Ambassador, H. E. Mr. Zheng Qingdian was present at the above functions.
