Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hong Lei's Remarks on Japanese Fishing Boats' Operation in the Waters off the Diaoyu Islands
2011/07/04

Q: The fishing boats of a fishery association of Okinawa Prefecture and the Japanese right-wing group reportedly operated in the waters off the Diaoyu Islands on July 3. What is China's comment?

A: The Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islands have been China's inherent territory since ancient times. China has indisputable sovereignty over them. Any measure adopted by Japan in the waters off the Diaoyu Islands is illegal and invalid. China has lodged solemn representations to the Japanese side, urging Japan to withdraw its fishing boats from relevant waters immediately. It is learned that the Japanese fishing boats have already left the waters.
