Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hong Lei's Remarks on Japan's Release of Radioactive Water
2011/04/08

Q: TEPCO has released 11,500 tonnes of water with low levels of contamination from Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant to the Pacific Ocean. What is China's response?

A: Japan has officially notified China of that. As Japan's close neighbour, it is natural for us to express concern over that. We hope Japan will act in accordance with relevant international laws and adopt concrete measures to protect marine environment. China is following closely the development of the situation and conducting professional evaluation. We will keep in touch with Japan and urge the latter to provide China with relevant information in a timely, comprehensive and accurate manner.
