2019/09/27

(September 25th 2019, ICCB)

Your Excellency Mr. Anisul Huq, Hon'ble Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs,

Honorable Ministers and Heads of Missions,

Ladies, gentlemen, compatriots and friends,

Good evening! It is such a pleasure to be joined by all of you at this grand gathering to celebrate the 70th birthday of the People's Republic of China. First, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh, I would like to extend my warm greetings to all the honored guests, my best wishes to all the Chinese nationals and compatriots in Bangladesh, and my sincere gratitude to our Bangladeshi friends as well as friends from other countries for your care for and support to China's socio-economic development and the enterprise of reform and opening up.

70 years ago, Chairman Mao Zedong, standing high on the Tian'anmen Gate, proclaimed with all solemnity, that the People's Republic of China has been founded, and the Chinese people have stood up. The founding of our country marked the historic juncture where the Chinese Nation began to hold firm and strong in our own hands the fate of our country and nation. From that day on, we have embarked on a remarkable journey from lagging behind the times, to catching up with the times, to leading the times.

70 years on, under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China and united under the same goal, Chinese people of all ethnic groups have made the leap from standing up, to becoming affluent and to growing strong, creating a miracle of human history.

70 years on, China has found a path for development that is tailored to its own national conditions-- the path of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, the essence of which is to uphold and to improve the leadership of the Communist Party of China. This is a choice of history and the people, and also a choice of the times.

70 years on, China has undergone tremendous changes, achieved world-recognized accomplishments, made historical breakthroughs in terms of comprehensive national power, and become the second largest economy in the world. People's living standard has been elevated from barely having enough to eat and wear to being moderately prosperous in all aspects. We are expecting that China's national income per capita will reach 10 thousand dollars and more at the end of this year.

70 years on, China has always defended its national sovereignty, security and development interests, and has contained and cracked down on separatist activities in all forms. The Chinese government has the confidence and the capacity to safeguard its national interests and integrity of sovereignty.

70 years on, China has made the historic transition from a closed and half-closed country to one that is open to the world in all aspects. China' s future and fate have been intertwined with that of the whole world.

70 years on, China has firmly opposed to any form of hegemony and strong-arm politics, and has upheld the principle that all countries, strong or weak, rich or poor, big or small, are equal, and should resolve differences and disputes peacefully through dialogue and negotiation.

70 years of achievements have proved the legitimacy of the path of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. No matter how many difficulties are waiting for us ahead, the Chinese people will continue down the path without wavering at all. No external interference or suppression can ever shake our faith and courage, and will never stop the historical trend of the Chinese nation heading toward the great national rejuvenation.

70 years of achievements have proved that China's development is an opportunity for the world. China always stands by peace, development, mutual benefit and win-win cooperation. It upholds the existing international order and system, supports globalization and free trade, and commits itself to common development with all countries on the basis of mutual respect, equity and mutual benefit.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the CPC central committee, with General-Secretary Xi Jinping at its core, has been leading people of all ethnic groups to upgrade the economic, political, cultural, social and ecological structure of China, to build a moderately prosperous society, deepen reform, uphold the rule of law and discipline the Party in a comprehensive manner, and to pursue innovative, coordinated, green, open and shared development. As a result, we have witnessed historic achievements and transformation in China, and ushered in a new era of Socialism with Chinese characteristics.

In the new era, a country as ancient as China has taken on a brand new appearance. We have made major breakthroughs in aerospace technology, quantum science, deep-sea survey, supercomputing, satellite navigation, big data, artificial intelligence and other scientific frontiers, topped the world in terms of the amount of R & D personnel and patent application, and led the middle-income economies on the Innovation Index. China has become an influential technological power.

In the new era, China has assumed a larger share of international responsibility with the consideration for the greater good of the whole world in mind. In 2013, Chinese President Xi Jinping, as a great visionary, put forward the Belt and Road Initiative, which has been echoed around the world. 6 years on, BRI has built new platforms for trade and economic cooperation between countries, paved new paths for enhancing connectivity, and made remarkable contributions to improving people's well-being and promoting prosperity and exchange in the whole world.

In the new era, China has come up with the concept of a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind out of the sincere wish to work with all countries in pursuit of common development. Now this very idea of a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind has been written into relevant documents of various international organizations like the UN and the G20, and gained wide recognition from the international community.

In the new era, China will continue to follow the path of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics without hesitation, uphold the leadership of the Communist Party of China and carry on the enterprise of reform and opening-up. Measures to promote a new round of high-quality opening-up are being implemented.

Ladies and gentlemen,

This year marks the 44th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Bangladesh. In the 1950s, Bangabhandu Sheikh Mujibu Rahman visited China twice, and we have seen frequent high-level visits between our two countries in recent years. Our profound and time-tested friendship has been passed on for generations, laying a solid foundation for future development of our friendly relations. China values and appreciates Bangladesh's support to the One China Policy. In 2016, Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Bangladesh and elevated China-Bangladesh relations to the level of Strategic Partnership of Cooperation, opening a whole new chapter of China-Bangladesh exchanges. This year, Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid a successful visit to China, during which Her Excellency met President Xi and other Chinese leaders. The two sides had in-depth exchange of ideas and reached wide consensuses. During their meeting on 5th of this July, President Xi told Prime Minister Hasina that the consolidation and development of China-Bangladesh Strategic Partnership of Cooperation serve not only the common interests of the two peoples, but also the prosperity and stability of Asia, as well as the opening up and cooperation of the whole world.

Bangladesh is among the first countries to jump on board BRI in South Asia; it is not only one of the important partners of China to jointly build BRI, but also one of the first countries to benefit from the Initiative. In 2018, China-Bangladesh trade volume reached 18.7 billion dollars, with China maintaining the position as the largest source of import and largest trade partner of Bangladesh; the values of newly signed EPC contracts and completed turnover of Chinese firms in Bangladesh stood at 9.1 billion USD and 4.3 billion USD respectively, making Bangladesh top 10 EPC markets for China worldwide; direct investment from Chinese companies has grown by 396% year on year. In May this year, our two countries completed the letter of exchange on zero-tariff treatment for 97% of Bangladeshi products being sold to China, which will help Bangladesh to expand export to China. Major projects including the 4th generation of National Database Center and the 3rd phase of Government Internet Infrastructure have been completed one after another; other projects such as Padma Bridge Railway Link and Payra Power Plant have started with sound progress being made. The role of trade and economic coperation, as the "stabilizer" and "propeller" of China-Bangladesh Strategic Partnership of Cooperation, has grown stronger.

Under the BRI Initiative, we have seen ever dynamic people-to-people exchanges. In 2018, a total of 49 groups in the cultural area traveled between China and Bangladesh, involving 1115 people. Our Embassy issued 4400 short-term and long-term student visas, and the Chinese side provided nearly 1000 scholarships to Bangladeshi students. In addition, China provided training opportunities to Bangladeshi specialists in various fields. During Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to China, competent authorities from both countries signed the "The Executive Plan 2019-2022 for Cultural and Tourism Exchange and Cooperation", charting the course of action for future people-to-people exchange between our two countries.

In recent years, under the joint efforts of leaders of both countries, China-Bangladesh military cooperation has deepened, the good momentum of high-level exchange has been maintained, and the strategic mutual trust has been strengthened comprehensively.

Under the outstanding leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has also found its own path of development that is tailored to its needs, with the highest GDP growth rate and the sharpest development trajectory in the region and even the whole world. Between China and Bangladesh,Our two peoples are close to each other; our national conditions are similar; our development goals can align with each other. We have plenty of space to work with each other. We are willing to join hands with our Bangladeshi friends to promote traditional friendship, consolidate strategic cooperation and deepen strategic mutual trust. We want to be good partners for common development, good neighbors that treat each other with the utmost sincerity and good brothers who are always there for each other. Let's work relentlessly to make the Chinese Dream and the Sonar Bangla Dream come true; let's write more brilliant chapters of China-Bangladesh friendship.

Thank you.
