On 1st December, Ambassador Li Jiming addressed Signing Ceremony of 42.5 MW Waste to Power Project as a special guest. H.E. Mr. Md. Tazul Islam, MP, Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives, H.E. Mr. Nasrul Hamid, MP, Hon’ble State Minister, Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Md. Atiqul Islam, Hon’ble Mayor to Dhaka North City Corporation, Mr. Helal Uddin Ahmed, Senior Secretary to Local Government Division, Md. Habibur Rahman, Secretary, Power Division and Md. Belayet Hossain, Chairman, BPDB graced the occasion as well as H.E. Mr. Mahbub Uz Zaman, Ambassador of Bangladesh to China, Mr. Zhou Shangzhi, Deputy General Manager of Headquarter Business Department One, China Export&Credit Insurance Corporation, Mr. Fang Yanshui, President of CMEC attended virtually.
In his speech, Ambassador Li mentioned that “The 42.5 MW Waste to Power Project, which is expected to be the first and largest waste-to-energy power plant in Bangladesh even in South Asian, has been attached great attentions by both Bangladeshi and Chinese governments.” “Under the Belt and Road Initiative towards green, environment-friendly and sustainable development, China has been and will always be steadily standing by Bangladesh, continuously expanding practical cooperation in various fields, encouraging green investment and promoting low-carbon sustainable development in Bangladesh. This will become the keynote of bilateral investment cooperation in the future.
He also emphasized the importance of the project, “Bangladesh is at the critical junction of rapid development, where environmental issues are as significant as economic development. Therefore, the implementation of the project is not only a cost-effective avenue to tackle environmental issues in North Dhaka City, but also a role model of cooperation in the power sector, symbolizing the joint effort to steer global development towards a green, sustainable and inclusive recovery in the post-COVID era. ”
The project has a total investment of 491 million US dollars. Through BOO, a domestic waste incineration plant with the capacity of 3,000 tons daily will be built to achieve generation of 42.5 MW. The Implementation Agreement, Power Purchase Agreement, Waste Supply Agreement and Land Use Agreement were signed at the ceremony.
